After months of rumors, Nintendo surprised fans with a Mario 35th Anniversary Direct out of nowhere. The video package revealed a number of interesting Mario products to celebrate this amazing anniversary for Nintendo's plucky plumber, including a collection that fans have been begging for: Super Mario 3D All-Stars. In this $60 package, fans will be able to play Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy on the Nintendo Switch.
This was all great news. Until Nintendo announced that the game would only be available until March 31. That's not just for the physical package either as the digital version of this collection will be delisted from the Nintendo eShop once March 31 passes. What the hell Nintendo?!
One can imagine why Nintendo would make this collection so limited, especially since this will ensure a massive price hike for Super Mario 3D All-Stars once the game is out of print. Fans might be forced to go to eBay and we aren't sure if Nintendo will be willing to restock these games when they sell out the first time.
Why is Nintendo limiting the release of this beloved collection that fans have been begging for? The hot rumor is that Nintendo might eventually add Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Wii games to their Nintendo Switch Online service. Currently, fans can pay $20 a year to play NES and SNES games, along with a couple of exclusive multiplayer titles, so adding N64, Gamecube, and Wii software in the future would be pretty cool.
Doesn't make the limiting of this collection's release any better. Come on Nintendo, keep this in circulation so people can appreciate your long-running icon.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be coming to Nintendo Switch on September 18. Super Mario Galaxy still needs motion controls.
