New Street Fighter Live-Action Movie Finds Its Directors

Recently, we learned that Legendary Pictures and Capcom are working on a new Street Fighter live-action movie as the former acquired the film and TV rights of the beloved video game property.

However, during the time of the announcement, there were no details regarding the director or writer that are attached to work on the project. It is also unknown yet what kind of take they'll do in this new adaptation.

Now, it looks like the project is moving along quickly as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Danny and Michael Philippou, the duo behind the YouTube channel RackaRacka and directors of the upcoming horror film Talk to Me, are set to helm the new Street Fighter live-action movie.

They are the first key people who are attached to the project, which is still currently looking for a writer to pen the new adaptation. There are also no details yet regarding which characters will be featured in the movie or which material from the property it will be based on.

Nevertheless, this is a significant step for the Philippous, whose careers are currently on the rise after the positive buzz on Talk to Me when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is set to release in theaters this summer.

This will also be the duo's first official involvement in a franchise/IP project after they both revealed recently that they took down the opportunity to direct a movie in the DCU franchise.

While it is hard to tell right now whether the Philippous are the right choice to helm the new film adaptation of Street Fighter since Talk to Me is not out yet, they have shown in their YouTube videos that they are capable of handling action-oriented projects which is an encouraging sign for their involvement.

We should be hearing more news and updates regarding the project in the coming weeks or months as it looks like Legendary Pictures is eager to develop this project already right after they nabbed the rights to the property.
