New Mulan Poster Explores Two Sides of One Hero

Disney's live-action Mulan is going to release a month from a now, and we've been getting some new promo material to help get us hyped for the release. Though the song has been cut from the movie, we have anew Dolby Cinema poster that plays on Reflection, and it's pretty neat.

Though I'm alright with the decision to scrap the songs from the live-action version of the movie, I really think this was a wasted opportunity. I mean, even Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin kept their songs, so I wonder why Mulan should be any different. It's not that the songs are terrible too, because Mulan probably has one of the best soundtracks from the Disney Renaissance era.

Personally, my main gripe with this film is that the movie has somehow lost the ‘battle of the sexes' message that the original one had. In the cartoon, Mulan beats the rest of the men and the hyper-masculine Shan Yu by using her smarts. Here in the movie, it's said that she's given mystical powers to make her a skilled warrior.

Then again, I'm just basing that on all the rumors that have come out about the film. Maybe this one will still surprise me. For now, I guess I'm just being cautiously optimistic.

Catch Mulan when it hits theaters March 27.
