Variety reports that much like the birth of the then-DC Extended Universe, the DCU's first chapter will begin with the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy which is expected to hit theaters in July 2025. As it stands, key details about the reboot, most especially the actor who will replace Henry Cavill as the mighty Kryptonian have not been disclosed but James Gunn is writing the project's script.

Safran also revealed that he's persuading the DC Studios co-head to helm the film although that hasn't been decided yet. Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams' Superman project is still in active development but will exist outside of Gunn and Safran's shared universe.

Apart from Superman: Legacy, several film and streaming projects were unveiled during DC Studios' anticipated presentation, including The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, Lanterns, and Booster Gold among others.

Gunn and Safran didn't address whether or not the DCU will be a full-blown reboot but I think it's already safe to say that they're leaning towards that direction. Hopefully, this is the start of a more cohesive and triumphant DC film and television franchise because frankly, it's been long overdue.

DC Studios' Superman: Legacy is currently slated for release on July 11, 2025.
