Very few game franchises manage to have the same level of prestige as BioShock, and six years after the release of Infinite, we now have news that a fourth game is in the works.

According to BusinessWire, BioShock developers 2K have announced their new game development studio Cloud Chamber which will be dealing with the next BioShock title. They announce:

"BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation*. We can't wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge."

We don't have a release window for the game yet, but it's said that the next BioShock will be in development ‘for the next several years.' So it's likely we won't be getting anything by 2020.

If anything, I hope they manage to embrace the spirit of BioShock: Infinite and give us a completely new story and setting that's still somewhat connected to the original games. If anything, it's Burial at Sea that firmly solidifies the connection between Infinite and the original game. I don't know if the devs will be able to come up with a story without breaking the loop we already have, but I guess that's part of the challenge.

No release date has been set for the next BioShock game, but hopefully we get an release date sometime by 2020.
