Netflix's Avatar The Last Airbender Actor is Ready to Shave his Head

Netflix has been developing the live-action adaptation of Avatar :The Last Airbender for a while, and the streaming giant recently announced the four key cast members and creative team for the highly-anticipated fantasy series. It was revealed that Lost in Space star Gordom Cormier will play the show's protagonist, Aang, and according to the 11-years-old Filipino-Canadian actor, he's ready to have his head shaved for the iconic role.

For those unfamiliar, Aang is famously known for his clean-shaven head, and the Airbender keeps his hair shaven in order to show off his people's tattoo. This iconic design led Last Airbender fans to ask Cormier about his hair, and the star confirmed his plans on his Instagram.

When a fan asked if he'd be shaving off his hair to play Aang, Cormier replied that he plans to. "Absolutely," he told a fan. "I am Aang!".

Cormier went on to say that he hasn't shaved his hair yet, but he will when the project demands. Netflix hasn't announced the premiere date for Avatar: The Last Airbender, but filming is expected to begin in November. The actor said that he is "trying to keep it for as long" as he can, because he said that he's not interested in getting a scalp burn.

Netflix's Avatar The Last Airbender also stars Kiawentiio Tarbell (Beans) as Katara, Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why) as Sokka, and Dallas Liu (PEN15) as Zuko.

Showrunner and writer Albert Kim shared this statement following the announcement of the cast:

"We'll be expanding and growing the world, and there will be surprises for existing fans and those new to the tale. But throughout this process, our byword has been 'authenticity.' To the story. To the characters. To the cultural influences. Authenticity is what keeps us going, both in front of the camera and behind it, which is why we've assembled a team unlike any seen before—a group of talented and passionate artists who are working around the clock to bring this rich and incredibly beautiful world to life."
