Neil Gaiman Teases Good Omens Season 2 With Pixelated Crowley and Aziraphale

Although Neil Gaiman has previously been pretty sure that Good Omens would NOT be getting a second season, seeing as the last episode pretty much depicted a well-deserved ending for Crowley (David Tennant) and Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), the author had confirmed and still went into productions for a Good Omens Season 2 with a new storyline in mind.

Good Omens consisted of six episodes and was released in 2019 supposedly as a limited series. However, the show had been renewed for a Season 2 back in June 2021. Filming began in October 2021 and wrapped this March 2022. While the Season 2 release has no official date yet, it is expected to premiere sometime in Summer 2023.

In a Tumblr post, Gaiman teases new images of the ineffable duo, Crowley and Aziraphale, in dated clothing for Good Omens Season 2. The images were pixelated and distorted, although you can still make the faces of Tennant and Sheen. A fan replied on his post, addressing why the images were pixelated, and surely enough, the author explained having technical difficulties on shooting a couple of scenes for Season 2. “I looked on my phone. These aren’t from the broadcast on the day. They were from a glitchy day with the remote co-editing software where I got so grumpy I filmed it to show what was coming through on my end. But here you go… Happy holidays!”

This is more than enough reassurance to fans that Good Omens Season 2 is still underway, and a good enough teaser that doesn’t really reveal anything aside from possibly seeing more of how Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship grew over the centuries they had spent in the past. Gaiman did previously state why he doesn’t like fully revealing what’s to come for Season 2 on his Tumblr. Check out his full comment below:

“Do you know what the broadcasters do to showrunners who disclose significant things? They don’t just kill us. They make it so we have never existed. And our shows vanish with us. Hit shows like Headless Joe, Too Many Godmothers, Crab Hand Roll Mysteries and Where are my Knees? are now lost to the world, because their showrunners couldn’t keep secrets. You don’t want that to happen to me and Good Omens.”

Good Omens Season 2 is currently scheduled to premiere in Summer 2023 with no official release date yet. In the meantime, all episodes of Good Omens Season 1 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
