Amid the Netflix cancellation spree last year, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman Season 2 was one of the series rumored to be in jeopardy.
However, series creator Neil Gaiman was quick to address that Netflix would be doing no such thing, considering they have already signed a deal together.
It’s a miracle beyond words. But The Sandman Season 2 happening was only confirmed when one of the stars, Mason Alexander Park (Desire), confirmed the initial filming start date.
“Netflix has not gone on record as calling [The Sandman] a Season 2, on purpose,” Park said, “And so, I will, from now on and in the future, and possibly until the end of the universe, not refer to it as a Season 2 until we know what it is.”
Now, as of writing, a fan asked The Sandman author on Tumblr on the progress for Season 2 thus far, and what Gaiman has to say must lit fans up in soon getting to see the return of the series!
“Scripts are written. We are casting the first episode we will be shooting. Sets are being designed.”
In that same interview, Park continued on to tease fans how fans should be as hyped for the return of Season 2, considering there will be new characters, and the series will “take many forms”.
“There is more Sandman coming in a really cool way, and it can take many forms, so we’re starting shooting in the summer.” Park added,
“And we’re gonna tackle the next huge chunk of stories in however long that might take. And I’m really excited to share the format of what that might be with everybody, eventually.”
It is worth mentioning that Netflix’s head of UCAN scripted TV Peter Friedlander previously shared his exciting comments in lieu of the upcoming season:
“It’s a stay-tuned and watch.” Friedlander said, “Like you, I am a major Sandman fan and to be able to watch Neil and Allan do what they do is extraordinary.”
There is no official release date yet for The Sandman Season 2, however, as previously promised, the second season will soon start filming this summer.
