Mulan Premiere Might Get Pushed Back Again as COVID-19 Cases Surge

There is little doubt that Disney is eager to release Mulan next month. However, the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the United States might force the House of Mouse to reconsider the remake's July premiere.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals the highly anticipated reboot of the animated classic might need to be moved back yet again along with Christopher Nolan's Tenet. Mulan is set for release on July 24 while Tenet will premiere on July 31. However, both films might have to be pushed back yet again due to increasing cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles and New York.

According to the report, both movies will need to have cinemas in Los Angeles and New York "since they are the two largest moviegoing markets in the country." Unfortunately, these theaters might not be open in time for the premiere.

Mulan was initially set to premiere on March 27 but the Niki Caro film had to be pushed back due to the coronavirus outbreak shutdown. With theaters closed down, Disney opted to move the movie to a July release in hopes that the pandemic would have subsided. Sadly, there are still COVID-19 cases across the country and there is a huge possibility that the House of Mouse would have to make another pushback.

The synopsis for Mulan reads as follows:

"When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father."

Mulan is still scheduled for release on July 24. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
