Disney is very pleased with the buzz surrounding their live-action adaptation of Mulan, regardless of the bad publicity the film has been generating.

During an appearance at the Citi 2020 Global Technology Conference (via ComicBook.com), Disney CFO Christine McCarthy revealed that they're pretty pleased with the film's current performance on Disney+. Mulan is the first film to get a "Premiere Access" feature on the streaming service. "We are very pleased with what we saw," McCarthy shared.

The Liu Yifei-starrer has garnered immense backlash from fans over the last couple of weeks mainly due to the fact that Yifei is a vocal supporter of the police brutality in Hong Kong. The #BoycottMulan movement has been a constant fixture on social media. Just recently, China has prohibited promotions for the film in relation to the Xinjiang controversy.

With regard to their "Premier Access" feature, it proved to be a successful strategy for Disney+ considering a lot of theaters are non-operational amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now, with their next big-budget film Black Widow's premiere in danger of once again getting delayed, don't be surprised if it gets the same treatment. Again, it's the smartest way to go about things right now.

Mulan is currently streaming on Disney+.
