Mr. Potato Head is Getting Gender-Neutral Makeover by Dropping the 'Mr'

A famous toy is about to get a major makeover. Hasbro has just announced that Mr. Potato Head will now be gender-neutral and the packaging will remove the "Mr" in the name.

Hasbro made the announcement on Thursday, February 25, confirming that the toy will now be named Potato Head. The rebranding will be one of the company's major steps in breaking with traditional gender norms.

"Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr. from the Mrs. Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion," Hasbro said in a statement.

The toy, which has kept its name for over 70 years, will now give children the option "to imagine and create their own Potato Head family".

Although Hasbro will be releasing new Potato Head toys later this year, the company also made it clear that people still have the option to buy Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

"Hold that Tot – your main spud, MR. POTATO HEAD isn't going anywhere! While it was announced today that the POTATO HEAD brand name & logo are dropping the ‘MR.' I yam proud to confirm that MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD isn't going anywhere and will remain MR. & MRS. POTATO HEAD," the tweet reads.

Mr. Potato Head is one of the main characters in Disney's Toy Story film franchise. Interestingly, the character once scolded Woody for calling him "Potato Head" and leaving out the honorific.
