Who is Jax Briggs?
In the Mortal Kombat video games, Jackson 'Jax' Briggs is the United States Special Forces Major who works with Sonya Blade. The character was first introduced in Mortal Kombat II looking like a perfectly normal yet physically imposing guy but he becomes more powerful in the follow-up when he gets bionic arms.
How Did Jax Get Bionic Arms?
In Mortal Kombat 3, Jax is chosen as one of Raiden's warriors and he gets fitted with bionic arms to prepare for battle. From there, the reason behind the bionic arms changes with almost every new game and adaptation.
How Did Jax Lose His Arms?
The answer differs, depending on which Mortal Kombat game you're talking about. Although the bionic arms were supposed to be enhancements in the early games (and movies), they would later serve as replacements.
In Mortal Kombat 9, Jax's arms are obliterated by Ermac by using the latter's telepathic powers. In the animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, Goro brutally rips off Jax's arms.
How Did Jax Lose His Arms in the Mortal Kombat Movie Trailer?
Jax's ever-changing origin story is now a Mortal Kombat tradition and the new reboot proves it yet again. In the trailer, Jax (Mehcad Brooks) is shown taking on Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) who freezes his weapon just as he shoots. As they fight, the villain grabs Jax's arms and freezes them until they explode.
We're not exactly surprised that Jax gets a new origin story in the Mortal Kombat movie. Nevertheless, we're looking forward to seeing those bionic arms in action this April.
The Mortal Kombat movie will be released in selected theaters and on HBO Max on April 16.
