Michelle Obama just released his second memoir titled The Light We Carry. In her new book, she talked about her insecurities regarding her appearance.
Michelle Obama Reportedly 'Hates' Her Appearance
The former first lady penned her second book released Sunday. In her memoir, extracted in the Guardian's Saturday magazine, she talked about overcoming a "fearful mind", which she likens to "a life partner you didn't choose."
"I've lived with my fearful mind for 58 years now," Obama wrote, per The Guardian. "She makes me uneasy. She likes to see me weak."
She added that part of her mind would constantly feed her negative thoughts about her looks. There are reportedly "plenty of mornings" when she returns on the bathroom light, takes another look at herself in the mirror and "desperately want[s] to flip it off again."
Obama stands 5'11, and her height is among the source of her insecurities. It always brought her up the rear at school, which "created a small wound in me, the tiniest kernel of self-loathing that would keep me from embracing my strengths."
Michelle Obama Reportedly Loves Fashion
Even if Michelle Obama wasn't that confident with her looks, she had graced various covers of fashion magazines. In March 2009, she was on Vogue's magazine cover.
"She doesn't need any help. She loves fashion and knows what works for her. She's never had a conversation with me about, 'What do you think?' or 'How did this look?' And I'm glad for that," Vogue's editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley said of Obama, who reportedly selected the outfits she wore for the photo shoot, Fashion Network reported.
Obama admitted that she loved clothes and that her priority was comfort and fun instead of following the trend.
"First and foremost, I wear what I love. That's what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion," she said.

Michelle Obama's clothing played a role when she was the first lady of the United States. In fact, her effects on fashion brand was the subject of a study by a New York University professor in the Harvard Business Review entitled "How This First Lady Moves Markets."
Her significance as a contemporary role model goes far beyond her image. However, no one understood the role of fashion and its potential uses better than Obama herself.
"She realized very early on that everything she did had ramifications," said designer Thom Browne, who made Obama's tailored coat and dress for the inaugural parade in 2013 and the dress she wore to the 2012 Democratic National Convention and final debate that year.
Obama reportedly understood "that people did not just want to know how she looked, but what she was about."
Obama understood that fashion was a means to create an identity for an administration, and she used it to frame her own independence and amplify her husband's agenda.
