Meghan Markle still uses her royal title, Duchess of Sussex, even though she no longer works for the royal family. Her husband, Prince Harry, is also referred to as prince and as the Duke of Sussex even though he also quit his royal duties two years ago.

After Queen Elizabeth’s death, some royal experts shared their thoughts on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children, Archie and Lilibet, will be given royal titles by their grandfather, King Charles. But as of writing, the monarch has not made a decision as to whether his grandchildren will inherit royal titles.

Meghan Markle Very Keen To Cling Onto Her Royal Title, Royal Expert Claims

According to royal expert Neil Sean, Markle realized how important royal titles are after she befriended Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The sisters were given royal titles, and they still use them today even though they do not work as senior royals.

Sean also said that the Duchess of Sussex had a change of heart because she now wants Archie and Lilibet to receive their royal titles when the time comes.

“Harry and Meghan are very, very keen to cling onto those royal titles. After much deliberation, Meghan decided that the titles would be a good thing, not just for her but for both her children too. Meghan became very friendly with senior members of the monarchy, predominately Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. After this, Meghan realized how useful a title can be, particularly when you want to move in the correct circles. That is the reason why they want to clutch hold of titles,” Sean said (via Mirror UK).

Meghan Markle Said The Most Important Title She’ll Ever Have Is Mom

However, Sean’s claims were in stark contrast to what Markle told Oprah Winfrey during their interview last year. At the time, Prince Harry’s wife said that she didn’t have any attachment to royal titles because the most important title that she has is “mom.”

“All the grandeur surrounding this stuff is an attachment I don’t personally have. I’ve been a waitress, an actress, a princess, a Duchess - I’ve always still just been Meghan, right? I’ve been clear on who I am, independent of all that stuff, and the most important title I’ll ever have is mom. I know that,” Markle said.

Will King Charles Give Meghan Markle’s Children Royal Titles?

Meanwhile, royal author Katie Nicholl recently said that King Charles’ decision to give Archie and Lilibet royal titles will have a caveat.

“But if that did happen, it is going to come with a caveat. He is going to insist that Harry and Meghan are respectful of the institution if they are taking the titles of the institution. That is very important to him. Titles matter to Charles,” she said (via Marie Claire).
