Reports are rife that Meghan Markle could pursue a career in politics in the future. The Duchess of Sussex recently penned a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to lobby for paid parental leave, and she has not also shied from advocating for the causes that are close to her heart even though they are sometimes controversial.
Multiple sources are convinced that it’s only a matter of time before Meghan Markle gets into politics. And even her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., said that he won’t be surprised if the Duchess of Sussex pursues a political career.

Royal Family Won’t Support Meghan Markle’s Political Ambitions
But according to Charles Moore, a columnist for The Telegraph, the royal family won’t support Markle’s political ambitions. However, this is not because they do not believe in the Suits alum’s capacity to lead an entire country.
Instead, the royal family wouldn’t allow Markle to be a president while still using her HRH title.
“The US won’t accept HRH President Meghan. Her husband, of course, is His Royal Highness, so I do not see how he could be the First Gentleman if his wife were to enter the White House. This column has worried before that the Duchess of Sussex is riding for a fall in the way she wields her title in America,” Moore said.
Meghan Markle Cannot Be Stripped Of Her Title
Markle’s critics have been urging Queen Elizabeth to strip Markle of her royal title shortly after she quit The Firm. However, the monarch only stopped Markle and Prince Harry from using their HRH titles. The couple can still use their Duke and Duchess of Sussex title.
However, royal expert Marlene Koenig argued that Markle cannot be stripped of her title because it’s not her title, to begin with.
“Meghan has a title by marriage [and] Harry has the title by creation. In the UK, a wife shares her husband's rank and title unless she has a higher rank - the sovereign or peeress in her own right. Meghan is an American citizen and she has the right to speak out whether she is a Miss Markle or the Duchess of Sussex. Fighting for equality and for paid parental leave is not political - we need more voices. She cannot be stripped of her title because it is not her title. Only an Act of Parliament can remove Harry's peerages,” Koenig told Express.
As of Markle joining politics, the Duchess of Sussex has not expressed any desire to do so. But sources are convinced Markle will one day shift her gears and become a politician. However, this day won’t come anytime soon.

Meghan Markle Could Run For Governor, Senator Of California
In his column for The Sun, Tom Bower said that he thinks Markle could follow in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan.
“And what about the next 40 years? Once Harry has finished promoting his books, will Meghan launch her own global campaign to engage in the swirling muck of American politics?” he said.
Bower also said that Markle could join one of California’s Senate seats.
“She could also run for the state’s governorship, one of America’s most prestigious offices. At the end of ten years, the prime of a politician’s life, her record could well justify a bid for the Democrat nomination for the presidency. With the support of Democrat godfathers, the Clintons, and the Obamas, Meghan should have little difficulty getting nominated as one of the state’s 40 Congressmen sent to Washington,” Bower said.
