Royal fans have been pitting Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton against each other for years even though there’s really no competition between the sisters-in-law.

Just recently, Meghan Markle and Middleton were once again compared with each via new research that determined that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still more popular than Prince William and Kate Middleton on social media.

The research also revealed that Prince Harry and Markle are global sensations and they are more photogenic than Prince William and Middleton.

Over 2.4 million Instagram hashtags have also been used in reference to Prince Harry and Markle. As for Prince William and Middleton, their names have been featured in 2.2 million hashtags.

Photography experts Printique analyzed the Instagram hashtags used for 24 of the most popular royal couples in the world. And their findings revealed that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are the third most photogenic royal couple today.

Together, the monarch and her late husband garnered 1.4 million Instagram hashtags.

Lagging closely behind them are Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who were dubbed as the fourth most photogenic royal couple with over 1.2 million hashtags on Instagram, according to Express.

Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton Comparisons

Two years ago, BuzzFeed News compiled 20 different headlines pertaining to Markle and Middleton. The headlines showed how different the two women are portrayed by the media.

Daily Mail previously discussed Middleton’s cradle bump technique. The publication published photos of the future queen consort cradling her growing baby bump and described them as tender.

Years later, Markle did the same gesture while she was pregnant with Archie. However, the same publication questioned why the Duchess of Sussex couldn’t seem to get her hands off her baby bump.

Even something as absurd as an avocado was linked to Middleton and Markle. But for the former, the piece of fruit reportedly helped cure her morning sickness.

But when a royal fan gave Markle an avocado, the publication claimed that the fruit has links to human rights abuse and drought.

Markle and Middleton’s Christmas celebrations with their respective families were also compared by the same publication.

The Duchess of Sussex was slammed for not celebrating Christmas with Queen Elizabeth in Sandringham. But Middleton was praised for celebrating the holidays with her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.

These comparisons were one of the reasons why Prince Harry and Markle decided to quit The Firm two years ago.

Meghan Markle Likened Herself To Kate Middleton

Around the same time, The Sun claimed that Markle unknowingly compared herself to Middleton even before she joined the royal family.

On her lifestyle blog The Tig, Markle opened up about women’s idea of being a princess.

“Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength. We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here. Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate,” Markle wrote.
