Meghan Markle found an unlikely ally in Camilla Parker Bowles when she first joined the royal family. Just like Kate Middleton, Markle reportedly received advice and tips from the Duchess of Cornwall on how to navigate her new life as a royal.
On a few rare occasions, Meghan Markle and Camilla Parker Bowles were also photographed together during a royal engagement. They were spotted chatting and having a wonderful time with each other’s company.
Camilla Parker Bowles Helped Meghan Markle Navigate Her Feud With Thomas Markle Sr.
According to one of Camilla’s friends, Prince Charles’ wife helped Markle during a difficult time.
“She [Camilla] threw a hand of friendship out to Harry and Meghan at various points. When Meghan was going through a difficult time with her own father, Camilla helped navigate things,” the friend told Vanity Fair (via Express).
And shortly after she joined the royal family, Camilla invited Markle out to lunch.
“Meg was really grateful to Camilla who was very supportive and invited her out for private lunches, particularly around the time of her marriage. She listened to her and understood that it’s really difficult joining the Royal Family from an otherwise ‘normal’ life. Much like Meghan, Camilla had experienced a lot of negative press and hostility from courtiers due to her relationship with Charles when he was still married to Diana,” a source told Daily Mail.
However, it didn’t take long for Markle and Camilla’s relationship to become strained. The source said that the future queen consort was always ready to lend Markle a helping hand and give her advice, but the Duchess of Sussex refused to listen.
Camilla Parker Bowles Had Suspicions About Meghan Markle
While speaking with The Sun, royal author Tom Bower claimed that Camilla always had suspicions about Markle. But even if this was the case, she still tried to welcome her into the royal family because Prince Harry loves her.
“It is believed that [Meghan] has never liked Camilla, and I am sure the feelings are reciprocated. From the outset, Camilla was suspicious about the adventuress from Los Angeles. She found it hard to believe that Meghan would sacrifice her career and independence to serve silently as a team player devoted to the monarchy,” he said.
But even if this was the case, Camilla stayed mum about her suspicions out of respect for the royal family.
“But, as in all her conduct, Camilla remained tight-lipped. While watching Charles painfully believe that Harry was intent on publicly humiliating him, Camilla undoubtedly provided comfort and good advice to reassure her husband that he had done the best he could. She could comfort him that while his authority is challenged by the Sussex’s, he would emerge victoriously,” Bower said.
Meghan Markle Upset Camilla Parker Bowles With Her Social Media Post
Two years ago, there were also reports claiming that Camilla became upset with Markle’s social media posts. At the time, Prince Charles’ wife gave an important speech about domestic violence. Since domestic violence is such a significant subject, the queen reportedly asked the other members of the royal family to not post anything on their social media accounts. But Markle and Prince Harry didn’t listen.
“Of course, it was known Harry and Meghan would be doing engagements this week, some privately, but everyone was in agreement that Camilla's speech should take precedence. Unfortunately, some people had other ideas,” royal expert Russell Myers told The Mirror.
As of writing, Markle and Camilla have never confirmed the real status of their relationship. So, it’s unclear whether the two women are on good terms or not.
