Meghan Markle is posing a threat to the royal family when it comes to the battle of popularity. In fact, there is a debate on whether she could become bigger than her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. However, despite her making a name, the truth stands, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are farther down the line of succession.

Meghan Markle Could Become Bigger Than Princess Diana And Shrink Royals
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make a name even a year after they stepped down from their royal duties and settled in Los Angeles.
US journalist Kinsey Schofield and royal biographer Andrew Morton weighed in on the royal couple's popularity against the other members of the firm.
"You wrote about somebody saying that there was a danger in Meghan becoming bigger than Diana," Schofield asked Morton, per The News. "I think it was you know a courtier said there was concern that Meghan would become bigger than Diana and it would really kind of shrink the Cambridges. It would shrink Charles and Camilla and their objectives and what they were trying to do."
Schofield asked Morton if it was really possible that the Duchess of Sussex could be more popular than the late Princess of Wales.

Morton didn't give a direct response but said that there were no social media at the time of Princess Diana. However, at present, anyone can be known quickly globally.
Markle might be more popular, but the royal author pointed out that it's not a popularity battle when it comes to the royal family because "it's all about the position."
Morton cited Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden's popularity in the 1960s. According to him, the paparazzi would chase them around Europe because they couldn't get enough of the golden couple, but the fame was temporary.
"And they outshone the Queen and Prince Philip, but that kind of balloon eventually sinks and you’re back to the position," he said, pointing out how the Queen still managed to be on the top of the game because she's the monarch.
Meghan Markle And Princess Diana Have Some Similarities
Prince Harry married someone similar to his mother, Princess Diana. According to WWD, there were a lot of things that both endured similarly.
For instance, both dealt with depression and struggled with the press.
“I was really ashamed to say it at the time, and ashamed to have to admit to Harry especially because I know how much loss he’s suffered,” Markle said during his and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. “But I knew if I didn’t say it that I would do it and I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. That was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought.”
Princess Diana shared a similar experience when she talked about her postpartum depression.
"I was unwell with postnatal depression, which no one ever discusses. In itself, it was a bit of a difficult time. You’d wake up in the morning feeling you didn’t want to get out of bed. You felt misunderstood and just very, very low in yourself," Princess Diana said.
Prince Harry's wife and mom also had a hard time with the press. Fortunately for Markle, her husband is there for her. In fact, the Duke of Sussex released a statement when their romance was publicized because the press hounded Markle.
