Meghan Markle was frightened when the public learned about her royal romance with Prince Harry, according to the book Finding Freedom. The former Suits star didn't have any experience being chased by paparazzi before meeting the British royal prince, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claimed.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Notified When Their Royal Romance Leaked

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kept their royal romance under wraps when they started dating. However, it didn't take long before the public found out about it.

One evening late in October, Prince Harry was in Toronto with his then-girlfriend. He received a call from his aides at Kensington Palace and was warned that their relationship had already leaked.

"A tabloid was going to run with the story of their relationship. Their main worry was that her place would be besieged by photographers within 24 hours," the authors wrote, per Mirror. "They had little time to think because there was only a couple of paparazzi in Toronto but it wouldn't be long before photographers flew in from New York and LA, all hoping to get that first picture of the happy couple."

Prince Harry received several calls from his staff, convincing him to return to London because he only had a small security team than normal. However, he refused to leave his lady love.

According to Durand and Scobie, the duchess was nervous about what would happen next. However, she was also relieved that their secret to their friends and family was coming to an end.

Apparently, unlike big celebrities, Markle didn't have any experience with paparazzi. There was a sudden growth of interest in her when the press learned that she was dating a prince.

"Prior to meeting Harry, the only times she experiences cameras were on a set or on a red carpet," the authors added.

According to the royal biographers, the couple needed security because shortly after their royal romance was reported, a photographer from a photo agency based in Los Angeles scaled the fence into her back garden and waited for Markle by her car, hoping to get photos of her.

"Meghan was terrified and called the police," the authors added. "This is how it's always going to be, isn't it?', she said to a friend."

Prince Harry Released A Statement To Protect Meghan Markle From Press Harassing Her

Shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's relationship made headlines, Meghan Markle's life changed. There was a massive interest in her that some had already harassed her. Prince Harry released a statement calling out the press for harassing his girlfriend.

"Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public - the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Some of it has been hidden from the public," Prince Harry's communications secretary said.

There were reportedly many defamatory stories against the actress, her mom struggled to get past photographers to get to her front door, some reporters attempted to get illegal entry to her home and some even offered substantial bribes to her ex-boyfriends. The people close to Markle were also affected by the press' intrusion.

"Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game - it is her life and his," the statement continued.
