Prince Harry had been open about his dislike of the royal life. When he met and married Meghan Markle, he found someone who could help him leave the firm. However, the royal couple allegedly made a proposal they thought would work, but they didn't get the response they expected.
"They thought … it would force the Royal Family to respond by saying … ‘Okay, Harry and Meghan, what do you want? We’re going to give you want you want,'" royal biographer Tina Brown quoted an insider in her new book The Palace Papers, Page Six reported. However, the royal family allegedly shut the door.
"Harry and Meghan were really stunned," a former insider told Brown.
Prince Harry and Markle's biographer, Omid Scobie, told People that stepping away from their royal roles was harder than what the Sussexes imagined. Apparently, they wanted to work part-time, which the Queen disapproved of. Her Majesty vetoed their "one foot in, one foot out" approach, Scobie said.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly "had had it all mapped out in their heads" and planned how to live their lives while still carrying out their royal duties. The Finding Freedom co-author added that the couple "knew that they had to change things, but what they had actually planned wasn't actually what was best."

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step back from their royal duties, they did not just lose their responsibilities in the monarchy after letting them go, they also allegedly lost Prince William's trust.
The Duke of Cambridge reportedly felt "let down" and "wasn't sure if he could ever fully trust his brother again," royal author Robert Jobson, Express reported.
However, Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship has been strained when he took his older sibling's advice to slow down with his romance with Meghan Markle the wrong way. Since then, the royal siblings have reportedly been estranged.
Prince William was shocked and was filled with "simmering resentment" when Prince Harry spoke about their strained relationship during an official tour in South Africa, Entertainment Daily reported.
"To say William felt deeply let down would be an understatement. He wasn’t sure if he could ever fully trust his brother again," an unnamed source said.
The Duke of Cambridge was also not pleased when his younger brother said during his interview with Oprah Winfrey that he and their father, Prince Charles were "trapped" by their roles in the monarchy. Prince William never felt that way, according to sources close to him.
"He was furious. He thought it was not only bad manners, but frankly rude to make those claims on his behalf, with no authority, and made worse because it was total nonsense," a senior figure.
