Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to face condemnations and criticisms even after they stepped back from their roles as senior royals on Jan. 8, 2020. Initially, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to detach themselves from Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family to be financially independent and to live peacefully.

However, as it appears, the present life of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is very far from what they expected when they announced their infamous Megxit. As a matter of fact, not a day has passed that the parents of Archie and Lilibet are not being denounced or caviled at.

Recently, a political scientist named Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as “danger for monarchy” after their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year. Keep on reading to know more details.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Triggered Australian Republicanism?

Professor Jenny Hocking, as per Express UK, claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey contributed to republican sentiments in Australia as it brought the monarchy “down to earth.” Speaking to the news publication, the political scientist stated:

“It was very interesting to see the interest in the monarchy and to raise the question, what is the monarchy in Australia anyway? Why do we have this? There appears to be a warring dysfunctional family pretty much like a lot of others we might know, and is there any reason why we still have any residual connection [to them]. We can surely come up with a dysfunctional family of our own as head of state.”

Jenny also warned that the public tension within the Firm was a danger for the British monarchy. The professor furthered:

“It brought them far more down to earth, to all of our levels and that’s always a danger for a monarchy. A monarchy has to be seen as somehow different even though it tries to present itself as a mere family. Of course, it’s not ‒ it’s a massive institution. It’s not called the Firm for nothing ‒ it structures an entire form of government around it. Royal secrecy has always been so important ‒ areas, where the monarch and the monarchy might behave in a way where we would not accept in a liberal democracy, are able to be hidden through royal secrecy.”

The political scientist claimed that Australia would quit the monarchy eventually, with Barbados being its possible inspiration. Jenny Hocking shared:

“I think there’s no doubt that it leads to more discussion, not just in the remaining Commonwealth countries that are still constitutional monarchies but particularly among them. “I think seeing another country, a relatively small Caribbean country, taking that step and moving forward, of course, it starts the conversation here about how we might do the same and why we haven’t done the same. As more and more countries, former colonial countries, move towards that, and we’re now down to 15 among the 54 Commonwealth countries that don’t already have a republic, of course, it raises questions among us.”

Most, if not all, royal fans are aware that Barbados has removed Queen Elizabeth as its head of state and became the world’s newest republic on Nov. 30. Dame Sandra Mason was sworn in as its first president in an overnight ceremony in Bridgetown. Notable, singer-businesswoman Rihanna was also named as one of its national heroes.

Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have yet to comment on professor Jenny Hocking’s latest statements. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are known to be very vocal about their sentiments and opinions, which, according to reports, is among the reasons behind their strained relationship with the other royal family members.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry To Exchange Christmas Gifts With The Royal Family?

Meanwhile, another Express UK report claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would be celebrating Christmas with the rest of the royal family members but at a distance. Royal expert Neil Sean said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be exchanging gifts with the family “formally.”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Neil shared:

"There will be some gifts but it will be very formal. There will be a gift from the Queen, she's far too gracious to be childish to not include them in the gift package. But let's just say whatever they do send each other over it will be at a distance. That's rather sad given that the Queen is 70 years on the throne and having to deal with some of the toughest decisions in her working and personal life."

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly do not have plans to return to the United Kingdom anytime soon. As a matter of fact, the royal pair has not returned to the U.K. together ever since they announced their decision to resign from being senior working royals.

The claims of Neil Sean came after royal commentator Gwen Glamberg said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should visit Queen Elizabeth as she is not getting any younger. Also, Her Majesty needs the support of her loved ones especially since this is her very first Christmas without Prince Philip, who died in April.
