Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world when they announced their decision to leave the palace and the royal life to start a new chapter away from Britain in January 2020. At the time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed that they simply wanted a more peaceful life and become financially independent from the Firm.
However, during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed some of the reasons why they chose to step back from their senior royal roles. The Sussex pair revealed that the unending criticisms of the British media and the “racism” happening behind the palace doors are actually their motivations to ditch the royal life for good.
While there have been talks about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry possibly returning to the U.K. to grace some important royal events this year, a new poll suggested that some netizens do not welcome the idea of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being back in Britain, two years after Megxit. Netizens Want Meghan Markle And Prince Harry To Stay In The U.S.
Express UK conducted a poll recently to know its readers would support Meghan Markle and Prince Harry if they rejoin as working royals should Prince Charles finally becomes king. The survey came amid reports that the Sussex couple could return to the U.K. later this year and claims that the Prince of Wales is likely to take over the throne soon.
A total of 52,358 respondents participated in the Express UK poll. Of the total number of votes cast, 48,897 (93%) voted “no” while 2,631 (5%) said yes. The remaining 830 (2%) said they did not know.
After the respondents cast their votes, some also left comments below the poll. One netizen stated:
“[Harry] is a person that had the world on a plate for years…Then all of a sudden he doesn't want anything to do with any of them. So my answer is NO!”
Another Express UK reader wrote:
“Why on earth would you let such poison back into the family? Keep them in the States!”
Other netizens suggested that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry must avoid putting themselves in competition with Kate Middleton and Prince William. One user penned:
“There will always be this one-upmanship on Harry and Megan's part.”
The publication also asked its readers if they would read Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir when it is released. To recall, the book of Meghan Markle’s husband is reported to hit the shelves in late 2022 and sources claimed it would “shake the monarchy to its core.”
A total of 47,579 (91%) readers said “no” while 2,363 (5%) voted yes and 2,143 (4%) said they did not know If they would read it. Express UK concluded that readers do not expect so much from Prince Harry’s imminent book, particularly after his and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
One netizen shared:
“This book is going to be more of what we saw with Oprah!”
Another Express UK reader said:
“Shake the Monarchy to the core eh? Doesn't sound like he would want to visit, be included, or have any contact whatsoever with his family then.”
