Before the release of the Moon Knight series, the last Marvel series to arrive on Disney+ was Hawkeye, which features Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) working together with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). The series set up several teases for the future of the MCU, and fans are very eager to know what will happen to Kate as well as Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). While there’s still no official announcement on when those characters will be seen again, one character from the series is officially getting a spin-off series. Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) spent the whole series looking to avenge the death of her father, which led to the return of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) from Daredevil. In the finale of the show, Maya shoots Kingpin, but some fans suspect that he will return in her spin-off show. If you’ve been waiting for news on the Echo series, a new report states that the upcoming Disney+ series will start filming this month.
According to the report of Production Weekly, the Echo series will start filming on April 25 and is expected to continue through August 26 in Peachtree City, Georgia. IIn addition to Lopez, it has been revealed that Graham Greene (Dance With Wolves) was also cast in the show. It has also been reported that the Reservation Dogs director, Sydney Freeland, could be the one directing the series.
Just last year, Cox shared a casting search for two roles: “Iris” and “Jessica”. For the “Jessica” role, casting director Sarah Finn is looking for an actor who is “female, 15-18 years old, Native American or Latinx, Deaf." The character should be fluent in the American Sign Language and is also described as “strong, fiercely independent and unwavering." For the role of “Iris,” the character is described as “warm and nurturing,” Finn is looking for a Deaf Native Aemrican or Latinx actress in her late 20s or early 30s.
"It's just so crazy that I'm getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever," Cox said in an interview with Variety. "I don't know why they're giving me this opportunity, but I'm just grateful. I'm excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I'm just so grateful for all of the opportunities I've been given."
