Marvel's What If...? Wins Best Animated Series at the Critics' Choice Awards

One of the many MCU projects that were released last year is the animated series What If...? which explores the multiverse and an alternative take on some of the major moments in the franchise. The first season was well-received and a lot of fans are now looking forward to seeing more stories from The Watcher, especially now that we are exploring the multiverse even further in Phase Four. Now, the series has nabbed one major win in its list of accolades so far.

What If...? won Best Animated Series at the 2022 Critics' Choice Awards, beating other shows such as Big Mouth, Bluey, Bob's Burgers, The Great North, and Q-Force. The MCU series is joining a pantheon of animated shows that won in the previous years such as Archer, BoJack Horseman, and Rick and Morty. This is the first major win for the series so far and it also comes after winning Outstanding Achievement for Editorial in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production at the Annie Awards the day before.

It is impressive to hear that the series won the award since it just shows how much the critics love it and it's also rare to hear Marvel projects winning significant awards such as this. It's also not surprising that the series nabbed the award since it was popular back when it was released and received positive critical responses which is a sign that it has the critics' support.

Right now, the series is currently in the middle of production for the second season, which is expected to be released later this year. There are no details yet about the cast or which MCU films will inspire the new batch of stories that they are going to tell. However, there are rumors that some characters from the first season will show up in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Bryan Andrews, AC Bradley, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso serve as the executive producers of the series, with Andrews also directing and Bradley serving as the head writer.
