The entire geek community was shattered last year when it was announced that Spider-Man will no longer be part of the MCU after Marvel Studios failed to secure a new deal with Sony Pictures to continue their collaboration but thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and a third Spider-Man film is on its way. Details about the renewed partnership were never disclosed, however, some reports have claimed that the studios have only agreed to do one more film before the rights go back to Sony.

That means that the upcoming Spider-Man 3 could potentially be Tom Holland's final outing in the MCU as our friendly neighborhood web-slinger. Now, a new report from The DisInsider suggests that both Marvel Studios and Sony have agreed to keep Spidey in the MCU. In the latest episode of their podcast, hosts Skyler Shuler and Derek Cornell said that the deal has already been finalized and Holland will remain in the MCU because Spider-Man will play a much bigger role in the franchise moving forward.

I don't know about you but I feel like the reason why Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be a Spider-Verse kind of film is because the character's MCU days might be numbered and Kevin Feige wants to give him a proper send-off. If the rumored deal has already been signed, then it's a win for all of us. Marvel Studios can't afford to lose the radioactive wallcrawler at this point considering the fact that the character is without a doubt Marvel's flagship superhero. Not only that, but there are still tons of Spider-Man stories left to be explored in Earth-616.

The MCU's third Spider-Man film is scheduled for release in December 2021.
