Marvel Originally Wanted Black Panther 3 Before Chadwick Boseman's Passing

It has already been confirmed that Black Panther 2 is in the works but it looks like Marvel Studios actually had grand plans for the film franchise. It has just been confirmed that the studio was already preparing for a third Black Panther movie.

There is little doubt that Black Panther was one of the most promising film franchise for Marvel Studios. After all, the first movie was an instant blockbuster with memorable characters and a compelling script. When Black Panther 2 was announced, people were looking forward to more of Boseman's character. Sadly, those plans had to be undone after the actor's unfortunate passing in August.

But how determined was Marvel Studios about Black Panther 3? A new cover story by The Hollywood Reporter features Boseman's closest friends including his agent Michael Greene, who had actually made negotiations for two Black Panther sequels.

"Greene was negotiating a $10 upfront million deal for his star client to reprise his role as T'Challa in a Black Panther sequel, with a $20 million option for a then-planned Black Panther 3, according to sources. Greene wouldn't confirm those figures, but says his client's mandate was never about the money," the report reads.

It's no surprise that Marvel Studios was willing to shell out a huge amount for Boseman to reprise his role. Unfortunately, this is something we will never get to see in the future.

Black Panther 2, which will focus on the world of Wakanda and will not recast Boseman's character, is currently scheduled to premiere in July 2022.
