After her introduction in Hawkeye, Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez is set to have her own series titled Echo which will focus on her next journey in the MCU. While the exact plot details are still under wraps, there were rumors that Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock will also show up in the series. Now, it looks like another new cast member has also been recruited to be part of Maya's next chapter.
According to Deadline, Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs has joined the cast of Marvel's Echo. The details regarding her role are sketchy, but she is believed to be playing the role of Julie, a resilient and strong-willed character who is also one of the leads of the series. Her casting was hinted at last week when Cox posted an Instagram story of a flower that was sent to her by Jacobs prior to the first day of filming.
Marion Dayre serves as the head writer of the series. Sydney Freeland is reportedly involved in the series as the director. Besides Cox and Jacobs, Graham Greene has also been cast in a mysterious role while Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are rumored to be part of the series as well.
Jacobs is known for her leading role as Elora Danan in the acclaimed FX/Hulu series Reservation Dogs which is also executive produced by Taika Waititi. She earned a Gotham Award nomination for her performance in the series. She also appeared in other TV shows such as American Gods, Rutherford Falls, The Order, and Mohawk Girls.
The casting of Jacobs proves that Marvel is committed to doing proper Indigenous representation in the series. She is also a great choice in general and this is definitely her most high-profile project to date. While the details of her character are mostly vague, it looks like she will have a significant role and that might be the reason why a rising actress at her level was cast in the series.

Echo is set to be released on Disney+ in 2023.
