Namor's long overdue entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally happening this year and fans couldn't be more excited. The character, who first appeared in the pages of the comics in 1939 has been a staple in the Marvel universe since and has had the distinction of being an Avenger, Defender, and X-Men. Most notably, Namor is one of the founding members of the Illuminati, the superhero group that made its live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Speaking of the Sub-Mariner, Marvel Comics artist Mike Deodato, Jr. recently went under fire after mocking the physique of the MCU's iteration of Namor. On Instagram, the renowned artist posted a nude image of himself implying that he is more chiseled than actor Tenoch Huerta who is breathing life into the character.

Naturally, fans were quick to come to the Mexican actor's defense, even going as far as accusing Deodato of being racist. Now, the Spider-Man and Avengers penciler is taking to social media once again to clarify his controversial comments.

On Twitter, Deodato issued an official statement, dismissing the allegations thrown at him. According to him, his post was intended to be a joke that got blown into proportion. Intriguingly, Deodato didn't apologize for his post but assured everyone that he was nothing against Huerta whom he believes will do the Namor role justice. Check out his post below:

Tenoch has yet to address the artist's criticism but I'm pretty sure he won't lose sleep because of it. If anything, he's probably working extra hard to prove the naysayers wrong. I can't wait to see what he brings to the table.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits cinemas on November 11, 2022.
