Ever since he was introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man has become a fan-favorite in the MCU. The anticipation for his next solo film Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is coming next month, has been through the roof. There have been questions if it will be the character's last hurrah in the MCU. Now, we learn that we will apparently get to see more of him.
During the Disney+ Day celebration, Marvel Studios announced that they are currently working on Spider-Man: Freshman Year, an animated series that follows Peter Parker as he is on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots. Jeff Trammel (Craig of the Creek) will serve as the writer and executive producer of the series. It is unknown yet if Tom Holland will reprise the role.
Based on the description of the series, it looks like it will be a prequel origin series of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU before we first saw him in Captain America: Civil War. After all, when he made his MCU debut, he was already Spider-Man. Perhaps the series will explore how Peter Parker got the radioactive spider bite and his early days as our friendly neighbor before Tony Stark recruited him.
Fans have been wondering if Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the last time we see Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU, but now it turns out that it will be the case no more because of this announcement. Granted that it's an origin story, but still, we will get to see more of Spider-Man in the MCU and we definitely can't wait to see what they have in store for the series. We should be hearing more details about it soon.
