It makes sense that Cal Stone will appear a little different in Manifest Season 4 Part 1 on Netflix next month after suddenly growing older by five years and experiencing a slew of catastrophic occurrences.

Ty Doran, who plays Older Cal, made an appearance at the recent New York Comic Con alongside the rest of the cast and previewed his part in upcoming episodes.

A Rough Patch for Cal Stone in Manifest Season 4 Part 1

Manifest Season 4 Part 1 begins with a two-year time jump, and fans will discover that the Stone family's life has not been easy. Cal must deal with his father blaming him for what happened to Grace, in addition to grieving over the kidnapping of Eden and the murder of his mother (Athena Karkanis).

Furthermore, as Doran revealed at NYCC, the youngster has been living in hiding due to his rapid aging.

"He's going through a lot at the start [of the season]," Doran said, per Netflix's Tudum. "He can't go outside or be himself because what a crazy thing that would be for Cal to have aged up those five years. So his whole life is a secret. He just wants to help so badly and can't figure out how to put the pieces together."

A Major Change

Jack Messina has played Cal Stone, the Stone family's youngest member and a messenger in the Flight 828 mystery, for the last three seasons of Manifest. But in the Season 3 finale, Doran momentarily filled Messina's place, and he'll be back in Manifest Season 4 Part 1.

Fans may remember that when Cal touched Flight 828's tailfin, he vanished into an uncharted region. Cal reappeared five years later after Ben Stone (Josh Dallas) and Saanvi Bahl (Parveen Kaur) put the tailfin back in the water. He was transformed back into the age he would have been had the plane not disappeared. His age has at last caught up to Olive (Luna Blaise), his twin sister.

He did not have the opportunity to live through those five years, and his family had no idea where he went. That will be a major focus of Manifest Season 4 Part 1.

"As Ben, Michaela, Saanvi, everyone continues to try to put the pieces together, they're going to try to decipher whether it's possible to access that place if this is purgatory, some unknown destination that no one knows about," Manifest creator Jeff Rake told TV Insider.

"They'll be poring through the Bible, they'll be poring through the Noah's Ark myth, and other biblical stories to try to understand exactly how to access this place, wherever it is, how one gets in and how one gets out, and that'll be part and parcel of how they try to save themselves."

Ty Doran says Cal is 'Angsty' in Manifest Season 4

Doran said to Entertainment Weekly at New York Comic Con that although his character is physically older, he hasn't "matured" mentally.

Cal does, however, share one characteristic of a typical 17-year-old: teen angst.

"He's so angsty, he's got so many daddy issues, and he wants to help so bad. It's been interesting… Where he begins and where he ends are two very different places, and I think he really grows up over the course of this season," the actor added.

Manifest Season 4 Part 1 premieres on Netflix on Nov. 4.
