Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon Recalls Being Stunned at Grogu Puppet

Giancarlo Esposito may have been playing The Mandalorian villain, Moff Gideon, coming after Grogu for his midichlorian blood, but there is little doubt that nobody can resist the adorable little puppet. The actor himself admits having been stunned the first time he saw the Grogu puppet.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Esposito details how he was blown away from the first time he met Grogu on The Mandalorian set, feeling surreal at how the puppet looked like a “practical child.” Check out his full story below:

“We walk by a table, and he said, casually, ‘Hey, you want to take a look at the Child?’ And he pulls off the canvas, and I look at this practical child. And he explained to me, it was going to be this, it was going to be that, CGI…”

Esposito had been skeptical at first, though in awe at the realistic figure of Grogu, he could not keep his eyes away from the puppet, “The puppeteer walked by at that very moment and [he] said, ‘Do you want to see and talk to him?’ I went, ‘Okay…’ And the Child opened its eyes, turned its head, wiggled its ears, and I… You can’t take your eyes off of this Child.”

“Grogu is fascinating, mysterious, and smart, and I looked at Jon [Favreau] and I said, ‘Jon! This is the star of the show.’ And he stood back, and he scratched his chin, and he said, ‘Do you think so?’” The Moff Gideon actor continued on to say how he didn’t want to be separated at all from Grogu for the rest of the Star Wars show, “And I said, ‘I know so. And every scene that I’m in has to be with this Child.’”

The Mandalorian Season 3 is slated for release on Disney+ on March 1, 2023, among the many Star Wars shows and movies being released this year. Check out more information here.
