Mad Max: Furiosa Prequel Confirms Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

It looks like the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel focusing on Furiosa is finally happening. The highly anticipated project has just been confirmed to be in active development and has already confirmed Anya Taylor-Joy as the younger version of Charlize Theron's character. In addition to that, the New Mutants star will be joined by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The confirmation comes from Variety, which reveals that George Miller is actively working on the prequel to 2015's Fury Road. Interestingly, it was confirmed that Miller has decided to cast Taylor-Joy in the titular role of Furiosa. The respective roles of Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen have not yet been revealed.

Miller was confirmed to direct, co-write and produce Furiosa with his longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell. The prequel is set to be produced by Miller's production company Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner along with Warner Bros. Pictures.

It's no secret that Miller has had his eye on Taylor-Joy for some time now. It was previously reported that the filmmaker met with the Witch actress although her casting was not yet confirmed at the time. Unfortunately, this would confirm that Theron will not be a part of the Mad Max prequel but fans are hoping she will make an appearance in a flash-forward sequence.

But what are the chances that Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Max Rockatansky? There have been speculations that Max won't actually show up in the prequel. This would mean that Furiosa could be the first Mad Max movie that doesn't feature Mad Max at all.

Furiosa has not yet been given a production start date or release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
