We're all looking forward to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 after the first season concluded with an exciting tease at what would happen in the future. But when exactly can we expect the second season of the fantasy series? Amazon Studios head Vernon Sanders has teased the possible release date for the next season.
Vernon Sanders recently spoke to Collider about Amazon Prime's newest programs and he was asked about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. Interestingly, Sanders admitted that he is hoping the show will be back by next year although it seems unlikely.
"I don’t know that I can say… It would be amazing if we could get Season 2 out within a year of Season 1’s release," Sanders said. "It may take a smidge longer than that, but we're doing everything we can, and we're going to get better and faster as we go."
He then added that the second season is on schedule, thanks to what they have learned in the past.
"Certainly, the production, what we've learned in Season 1, has taught us things that we're applying in Season 2, and so far we set a goal for ourselves of when we want that show to be released, and we are on track and on plan," Sanders said.
There's a good reason why Sanders has high hopes for The Rings of Power Season 2. After all, he previously pointed out that the show has been Amazon Prime's most-watched program.
"It's just been a powerhouse for us. And, as big of an investment as it's been, it has more than paid off for us. So, we're thrilled," he said of The Rings of Power. "But it's a great question. I don't even know what the initial hopes were, but we've also grown so significantly as a service, with both this and the NFL, over the fall. We've just seen a tremendous surge of new memberships, and I think there's been some press about how that's impacted our membership numbers and [driven] us to be number one in the US."
