Its release may still be quite a ways away, but one of the LOTR films’ stars shared a new update on the upcoming Lord of the Rings anime movie.
Recently, Eowyn actress Miranda Otto mentioned some interesting updates about the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime film.
Specifically, she mentioned something related to the voice recording for her role in the movie.
LOTR: The War of the Rohirrim Anime Movie Releases Next Year
It has been two decades now since Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies were released, though the franchise continues to enjoy lots of interest thanks to some recent projects.
Aside from Amazon’s The Rings of Power series, there’s also an upcoming animated movie that serves as a prequel to the original trilogy.
Titled The War of the Rohirrim, this upcoming movie will be animated by Sola Digital Arts, the Japanese anime studio behind recent 3DCG anime titles such as Netflix’s Ultraman and Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.
Sola was founded back in 2009, though the studio has only become widely known in recent years thanks to its recent CGI anime works.
When the new anime was announced, many expected the film to have CG animation given that Sola is handling animation duties. Though some reports suggest that the studio will go with 2D animation for this project.
What we can say for sure is that the film will feature key people from Peter Jackson’s trilogy. These include trilogy co-writer Philippa Boyens, as well as Eowyn actress Miranda Otto.

Lord of the Rings Star Miranda Otto Shares New LOTR Anime Update
While Otto will reprise her previous role, Eowyn is not expected to appear in the anime. This is because The War of the Rohirrim is set over 100 years before the trilogy, and it will tell the story of the legendary king of Rohan.
Instead, Eowyn will serve as the narrator of the movie. And recently, Otto shared an update with Metro that she’s already done with the initial recordings.
Though she also said that more recording sessions will happen in the next six to 12 months.
Speaking about the role, Otto also said that she was excited about this role as it’s a way to reconnect with her original character, all without the hassle of hair and makeup on set.
Though Otto did say that her Eowyn voice now is a bit older and that she tried to see if it still matches her voice as the character twenty years ago.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released on April 12, 2024.
