Lord of the Rings: Rings Of Power Receives Exciting Season 3 Update from Amazon Studios Head

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power received a season two renewal ahead of its season 1 airing and finale date; despite this, discussions for season three are already underway, given that the TV series is currently gathering more and more attention as it stays on the streaming platform.

Speaking recently with Deadline, Amazon Studios head Vernon Sanders shared exciting news about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3. He said, “We are absolutely committed, we have every reason to be excited. They’ve done a tremendous job. It’s a great question about Season 3, we’re probably two to three months in on Season 3, but I think there could be news certainly in the new year.”

“There’s so much planning and prep that’s necessary for us to get this mounted that the only reason we probably haven’t gotten there quite yet is we’ve just been so heads down in Season 2, but I would expect there to be news in the new year.” added Sanders. Recently, the series just landed its all-female directing team for season two, which makes the upcoming production more enthusiastic.

Sanders also revealed in another interview that Rings of Power is their most watched series ever. After releasing its eight-episode first season back in September, the series has been watched by more than 100 million people worldwide, including 25 million viewers on its premiere day, with more than 24 billion minutes streamed, making it Prime Video's biggest launch ever.

Given that Amazon is committed to their investment, its continuous audience recognition, and how widely the Middle Earth narrative can expand, there are plans to run the show through season 5. The first season of Rings of Power cost $462 million to produce, making it the most expensive TV show ever created for the streaming platform. This might be the reason it continues to receive season renewals.

“We green-lit this, we made this investment, just on the rights, so long ago, that I don't even know what the hopes were. But it has been a tremendous success. It is, by far, our most-watched show, first-season scripted series, by far... So, it's just been a powerhouse for us. And, as big of an investment as it's been, it has more than paid off for us. So, we're thrilled.” said Sanders.
