Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Will Debut on Disney+

Besides live-action Star Wars shows, Disney+ is also going to be an avenue for original films, and back in 2018, it was reported that a remake of 2002's Lilo & Stitch was in the works. We haven't gotten any significant updated since then, but now we have an idea of where Disney wants to release the movie.

As per The DisInsider, Lilo & Stitch will be coming out as a Disney+ original. What's more, the movie is going to start production this fall in Hawaii.

We don't have any news on the cast yet, but it's said that the original voice actor for Stitch, Chris Sanders, is going to reprise the role. The movie is working on a script from Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man), but the movie is yet to have a director.

With Lilo & Stitch not having the same level of prestige and nostalgia as Aladdin or The Lion King, it kind of makes sense that Disney would release it under a less risky platform. I guess the big question here is if they'll be able to come up with a photo-real Stitch for the film. I mean, the animals in The Lion King turned out great, so maybe they can apply the same tech to this movie. If anything, the fans can always pull off a Sonic the Hedgehog if they don't like how live-action Stitch turns out.

Personally, I think that the movie was told perfectly through the animated medium, and I'm kind of pessimistic about how they'll bring that same kind of energy to live-action. Then again, this is Disney's money, so if they want to do a remake, I guess there's no stopping them.

No release date has been set for the live-action Lilo & Stitch.
