Lightyear Voice Cast Adds Thor Director Taika Waititi

Fans have been looking forward to Lightyear, the Toy Story spin-off film that tells the origin story of Buzz Lightyear who will be voiced this time by Chris Evans. While exact plot details are still under wraps, but they did release an awesome teaser trailer a few weeks ago which became the second most-watched Pixar teaser in 24 hours (just behind Incredibles 2). We also don't know who the other cast members will be, but now it looks like another MCU star is joining the voice cast.

According to The DisInsider, Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder as well as the voice of Korg in the MCU, is joining the voice cast of Lightyear. His role is kept under wraps, but it is being described as a sidekick to Buzz Lightyear. They also confirmed that he will not be the voice of Zurg, who is going to make an appearance in the film.

Waititi is a wonderful voice actor who has done terrific voice works in the past such as IG-11 on The Mandalorian and Korg in the MCU. He is definitely a great addition to the voice cast and it looks like he will be voicing a major character since he will be the sidekick of Buzz Lightyear. He also has an iconic voice that we will definitely recognize when we see the film. It will surely be fun to hear him banter with Evans' Lightyear. It's going to be exciting to see them together and it's curious to find out who they'll cast more which we'll surely find out soon.

The project was announced during the Disney Investor Day meeting last year. Long-time Pixar animator Angus MacLane is making his feature directorial debut. It is written by Pete Docter. Lightyear is set to be released in theaters on June 17, 2022.
