One of the riskiest parts of developing an adaptation is ensuring that even though a little tweaking of the original source wouldn’t hurt, choosing the best possible actors to bring the characters to life would be the next big thing since this could make or break the adaptation. As for the case of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us HBO series, it would seem fans are quite impressed with Ellie actor Bella Ramsey.
Recently, the official The Last of Us HBO Twitter account posted one of Ramsey’s comments that garnered the attention from fans. At Brazil’s Comic-Con Experience (CCXP), when Ramsey was asked about Ellie’s ‘biggest’ achievement as a teen, the actor’s statement was more than enough evidence for fans to root for the actor in soon seeing her work on screen. “To make Joel laugh is I think Ellie’s greatest achievement.”
To give context, The Last of Us may center Joel and Ellie’s survival in a post-apocalyptic world, but every now and then, the game also features Ellie briefly reading a few jokes and puns in an attempt for a more ‘human’ moment between the characters. Joel is known to be a gruff and serious man in charge of smuggling Ellie to the Fireflies, in hopes of curating a cure from Ellie's immunity to the virus. However, as a teen, it has also become Ellie’s goal to make the old man laugh, which is a rare case for Joel.

What makes this even more amazing is the fact that Bella Ramsey had previously admitted never having played Last of Us before. This was encouraged so the actor could take her own spin in her own character for the adaptation. Of course, fans are appreciating her even more for how much she understood about Ellie. And it seems that Ramsey is finding no trouble in already capturing the hearts of many, pleased to find their ‘Ellie.’
The Last of Us is slated for release on HBO Max on January 15, 2023.
