Last night's epic finale just reminded us how much we want La Brea Season 2 to happen, and we want it fast. That being said, when does the next season come out?
We've got the answer to that, as well as a slew of other questions surrounding the return of the season's top new drama.
La Brea Season 2 Filming Location
Season 2 will be produced in Australia, as was the case with Season 1. David Appelbaum, the show's creator, told TVLine that it's "a fantastic place to shoot… There’s a natural wonder to the landscape there that is perfect for 10,000 B.C. — things you can’t really get in a lot of other places. [It also has] really experienced [local] crews, too, that have stepped up at every juncture.”
NBC's La Brea stars Natalie Zea (Justified) as Eve Harris, a mild-mannered office manager who, together with her teen son Josh (Jack Martin), falls into a giant sinkhole that bursts wide in downtown Los Angeles. After landing in a foreign world, Eve, Josh, and the other survivors — including Sam (Jon Seda), his daughter Riley (Veronica St. Clair), Ty (Chiké Okonkwo), stoner Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney), and drug dealer Lucas (Josh McKenzie) — learn they are still in L.A., but 12,000 years ago!
While they wonder if they'll ever be able to return home, Eve's estranged husband Gavin (Eoin Macken) and their daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) are stuck in 2021, working with Dr. Sophia Nathan (Virginie Laverdure) and later her colleague Rebecca Aldridge (Ming-Zhu Hii) to launch a rescue mission into the sinkhole — despite objections from DHS agent Markman (Toby Truslove).
How Many Episodes Should We Expect?
According to TVLine, filming on the next batch of episodes will begin in the spring – no exact episode count has been confirmed yet, but all signs point to it being ten episodes or close to it. It's difficult to picture this program doing a massive 22-episode season, given how ambitiously it films.
Also, for the sake of the story, we believe it's probably best if it doesn't. Ten episodes mean less fluff and more time for people to miss the show when it is no longer on the air.
La Brea Season 2 Release Date
Though La Brea was originally planned as a summer series for NBC, the difficulties of filming and post-production forced it to be delayed until Fall 2021.
Season 2 will, similarly, most likely premiere in the fall of 2022, but within the traditional TV season of 2022-23. (This means that if you were hoping for Season 2 to shake things up and premiere as soon as next summer, you'll be disappointed.)
