Knives Out 2 Wraps Filming Says Director Rian Johnson

When the first Knives Out was released back in 2019, it was a huge box office hit, garnered critical acclaim, and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Talks for the sequel officially begun afterward with Rian Johnson returning to write and direct and Daniel Craig reprising his role of Detective Benoit Blanc. Earlier this year, it was reported that Netflix has acquired the rights to the second and third films for a whopping $469 million and, in June, production for the sequel has officially started in Greece.

Recently, Johnson has officially confirmed in his tweet that filming for the much-anticipated sequel has wrapped filming. In the same tweet, he also took the opportunity to praise the new Leos Carax film Annette (which stars Adam Driver, who he worked with in Star Wars: The Last Jedi). Since filming has been finished, that means post-production is currently underway and the wait for the sequel won't take any much longer. Netflix hasn't officially announced a release date yet, but we can safely assume that we might be able to see it on our screen as early as next year.

In a past interview with Uproxx, Johnson stated that the sequel will be a standalone film comparing it to Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels where it is "a whole new mystery, a whole new location, all-new cast, whole new mechanics of the appeal of a mystery and everything."

Just like the first film, Johnson has assembled a star-studded supporting cast including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

Fans are eager to wait on what's next in Benoit Blanc's new mystery. Little is known yet about the plot, but given that they filmed most of the sequel in Greece, the setting alone already hints that it will be significantly different from the first one and we might expect a summer European vibe akin to some of the classic works of Agatha Christie.
