Prince Harry Details King Charles' Alleged Joke About His Paternity
Page Six obtained some extracts from Prince Harry's upcoming book, Spare. In his memoir, Prince William's brother shared how their dad allegedly made hurtful jokes about his real father.
"Pa liked telling stories, and this was one of the best in his repertoire. He'd always end with a burst of philosophizing … Who knows if I'm really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I'm even your real father?" Prince Harry wrote.
"He'd laugh and laugh, though it was a remarkably unfunny joke, given the rumor circulating just then that my actual father was one of Mummy's former lovers: Major James Hewitt. One cause of this rumor was Major Hewitt's flaming ginger hair, but another cause was sadism."
The book noted that the King has never spoken to Prince Harry about the rumors that he is Princess Diana's son with James Hewitt directly. However, he found it offensive because many have been talking about it, and it has circulated to the press for years. Even at present, some still believe that he is Hewitt's son.
"Maybe it made them feel better about their lives that a young prince's life was laugh-able. Never mind that my mother didn't meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born," he added.
James Hewitt Denied The Rumors That He Is Prince Harry's Real Father
Princess Diana's former lover addressed the speculations linking him to Prince Harry. The former British cavalry officer shut down the rumors denying that he is the Duke of Sussex's father.
"Admittedly the red hair is similar to mine and people say we look alike," Hewitt told Sunday Mirror in 2002. "I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I was with Diana for a long time I must state once and for all that I'm not Harry's father. When I met Diana, he was already a toddler."

Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, also denied the speculations surrounding Prince Harry's paternity. He attributed Prince Harry's ginger red hair to the Spencers, who have red hair.
Prince Harry's book Spare will hit shelves Tuesday.
