King Charles is in a difficult situation ahead of his coronation. Aside from dealing with his mother, Queen Elizabeth's deal, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just dropped their Netflix docuseries that is critical to the monarchy. The Duke of Sussex is also releasing his memoir next month. So, the Sussexes' attendance at the new king's coronation has now become a topic of discussion.
King Charles Has No Simple Solution About The Sussexes' Attendance At His Coronation
Royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti, who appears on BBC, Sky News and Fox News, spoke about King Charles' dilemma regarding the Sussexes' attendance at his big day. According to him, His Majesty is in a real "real dilemma."
"Regarding the Coronation, I think it's a real dilemma," Sacerdoti told Express. "It might seem very aggressive not to invite Megan and Harry though most people would understand exactly why that decision would have been made."
He added that he could make a creative solution not to invite non-working royals so as to not extend an invite to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from their royal duties in 2020. However, it will reflect a wider decision and affect many.
"That's what happened during the Jubilee celebrations on the balcony when other non-working royals weren't included so the focus wasn't just on any individual who had been left out," Sacerdoti explained.
Regardless of the king's decision, Sacerdoti believed that he would still be criticized by some fans.
"Part of the problem is that the Royal Family is damned if they do and damned if they don't," he added.
"Their constant consideration regarding Meghan and Harry now must be at every stage to balance any possible damage resulting from both sides of any decision they take. Sometimes the choice will be between two less than ideal possibilities and they have to decide which is less bad."
King Charles Reportedly Doesn't Want To Appear 'Petty And Punitive'
King Charles doesn't want to be seen as someone who takes vengeance. So, he reportedly has no plans to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their royal titles because he didn't want to appear "petty and punitive."
"Stripping their title is not something the king would likely ever consider ... mostly because it would be too petty and punitive," an anonymous source told Page Six. "It would only lead to the Sussexes claiming that it was a retaliatory action and proof they were never wanted in the royal family."
Thus, it's possible that the king will still invite the Duke and Duchess to his coronation on May 6, 2023, which falls on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie's 4th birthday.
