The death of Queen Elizabeth Thursday has resulted in several changes in the monarchy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is now technically a prince, a title that the former Suits star claimed was denied due to his race, The Guardian reported.

His younger sister Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, 1, is also entitled to be a princess after their grandfather, the Prince of Wales, took over the throne.

Under the protocols established by King George V in 1917, the children and grandchildren of a sovereign have an automatic right to the title HRH and prince or princess. Thus, Archie and Lilibet are now technically prince and princess because their grandfather, King Charles, is the new sovereign.

However, things could still change depending on the new monarch. King Charles could do something to prevent the Sussexes' children from becoming prince and princess.

What Can King Charles Do To Prevent Archie And Lilibet From Becoming A Prince And Princess?

King Charles would only need to issue a Letters Patent amending Archie's right to be a prince and Lilibet's right to be a princess. Is this possible to happen? Some believed that it might happen as the new king had always wanted to slim down the monarchy.

According to the Independent, doing so is not a slight to the Sussexes. However, the public might see it that way.

"Technically yes, because of the 1917 Letters Patent, [Archie and Lili] automatically become prince and princess, simply because that's how the rules are laid out," royal correspondent and commentator Victoria Arbiter told Independent.

"It remains to be seen whether Harry and Meghan will want it and the pressure that comes with that. Charles could change the Letters Patent, and, if he does change the Letters Patent, it's not a slight to Harry and Meghan."

Arbiter acknowledged Prince Harry's desire for a slimmer monarchy. The new monarch had that long-held desire even before Prince Harry met his wife, Markle.

"It remains to be seen what happens," she said. "But, under the current rules, they'll become prince and princess."

However, she also acknowledged that the new king might not make the change due to the public's potential reaction.

"Public perception is everything," she added. "At the end of the day, Charles wants to do whatever is favourable with the public."
