Natalie Portman is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an upgraded role and while a lot of fans are thrilled to have her back as Jane Foster, for a time, the idea of her returning to the billion-dollar franchise after being gone since 2013 seemed like a huge impossibility.

It's been a long-standing rumor that Portman had a major falling-out with Marvel Studios which resulted in her abruptly leaving the franchise after Thor: The Dark World. She would later shock fans after making a cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame and shortly after that, it was confirmed that she's making her triumphant return as the Mighty Thor.

Natalie stated in previous interviews that she was unhappy with Jane being underutilized in the MCU which led to her initial exit. Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is opening up about Portman's initial MCU departure and if they parted ways on bad terms.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Feige said that he never second-guessed Natalie's eventual return to the franchise. He explains: "It was [his] impression that if it was an interesting role, she would be game."

Interestingly enough, Jane Foster would officially become Mighty Thor one year after Portman's MCU exit which sounds crazy to think about. Now that Jane has been given a more prominent role in the franchise, it would be safe to assume that Portman's second MCU run will be much longer than her previous stint, and frankly speaking, I have zero complaints.

Thor: Love and Thunder is premiering this Friday, July 8th.
