Katy Perry has "roared" her way to success in the entertainment business with her sold-out albums and sought-after concert tours. She's one of the most favorite pop stars of the 2010s and, of course, her achievements translate into a big bank account.

The Begining of Katy Perry's Successful Career

The singer-songwriter started her career after completing her GED requirements at the age of 15. She worked with the rock artists Steven Thomas and Jennifer Knapp after getting their attention and brought her to Nashville, Tennessee.

She dropped her first album, which was a gospel, in 2001 after signing with Red Hill Records. Though it didn't find huge success, it received positive reviews from critics.

She then transitioned to secular pop and jumped from one music label to another. Finally, her breakthrough came when she signed with Capitol Records in 2007 and dropped her new album, One of the Boys, and the single, "Ur So Gay in the same year.

However, her rise to fame only came when she released her 2008 hit song "I Kissed a Girl." After a year, she started her first headlining world tour, Hello Katy Tour.

She also ventured into TV and became a judge on American Idol. She then released "California Gurls" from her third studio album, Teenage Dream, in 2010.

She also dropped "Firework," "E.T." and "Last Friday Night"--all from the same album--and they all topped the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first female artist to have five number-one songs on the said chart.

With the success, she became the sixth best-selling digital artist in the U.S, in 2012, with 37.6 million unit sales.

She then started her second headlining tour, California Dream Tour, and earned a whopping $59.5 million. She also dropped her autobiographical documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, which grossed $32.7 million at the box office worldwide.

Her fourth studio album, Prism, came in 2013 and sold 4 million copies. It was followed by her third headlining tour, Prismatic World Tour, earning $204.3 million worldwide.

Her fifth album, Witness, was dropped in 2017, followed by Witness: The Tour.

Katy Perry's Other Ventures

Aside from her singing career, Katy Perry also ventured into business. She formed her own record label, Metamorphosis Music, under Capital Records in 2014.

She later renamed it Unsub Records. She also made several guest appearances on Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother and Raising Hope.

Her debut film, The Smurfs, came in 2011 and she even reprised her role as Smurfette in The Smurfs 2.

From June 2019 to June 2020, her gross was about $40 million, $25 million of which was said to be from her hosting stint on American Idol.
