Kate Middleton just celebrated her milestone birthday. She has been part of the royal family for a decade already and here's what insiders say about the future queen consort.

Kate Middleton Not Confident Despite Her Years Of Experience

Camilla Tominey, the associate editor for The Telegraph, spoke with various sources to commemorate Kate Middleton's 40th birthday. The Duchess of Cambridge is known for being shy and reserved. One well-placed source spoke about Middleton's approach to her job.

"The trouble with the Duchess is she doesn’t think she knows anything, but actually she now has 20 years’ experience under her belt. That’s invaluable," the tipster told Tominey. "She always insists on being well briefed and largely wants to leave the talking to the experts – but as her husband constantly reminds her, she has a lot to contribute herself."

Kate Middleton Uses 'Listen And Learn' Approach For Her Royal Duties

Roya Nikkhah, the royal editor of The Sunday Times, also wrote a piece marking the future queen consort's birthday. She spoke with multiple sources, friends and aides who know the duchess.

Rebecca Priestley, a confidante and former advisor to the duchess from 2011 to 2017, said Middleton "listen and learn" when carrying out her royal duties. She also makes sure that she's knowledgeable about the events and charities she's attending before making an engagement.

"She was aware she wasn’t an expert in any one field and she wanted to educate herself first, then shine a spotlight where needed," Priestley said. "It was a ‘listen and learn’ approach rather than immediately becoming a patron of a charity. We did a lot of under-the-radar visits before the public engagements."

Prince William Is Proud Of His Wife, Kate

The Duchess of Cambridge is not confident with her potentials, but her husband, Prince William, always speaks with pride about her, according to Tominey. The Duke of Cambridge is happy that his better half has found her groove and popularity with the public. Middleton has also helped the future king prepare for his role in the monarchy.

"She has been a hugely important factor in him coming to terms with his destiny, how comfortable he has become with his role in the royal family as future monarch and the demands of that," a royal source said.
