Kate Middleton Considers Motherhood Her Top Priority
Several royal experts and commentators explored Kate Middleton's life as a royal and a parent in the new documentary Kate: Our Queen in Waiting. Many of them noticed that her main priority is not her royal duties, but her role as mother to her three children with Prince William.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge share three kids — Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3. Both parents are very hands-on when it comes to their little ones' upbringing.
"I think the brilliant thing about the Duchess of Cambridge is that she is bringing a modern touch to the role but respecting all the traditions that come with being a future Queen," Katie Nicoll said on the program (via Express). "While Kate has followed some royal traditions, there are times when she has done things her own way. And when it comes to her children, Kate has taken a very direct role in their upbringing."

Nicholl added, "This very modern, hands-on approach has endeared her to parents across the country, it also sets the tone for the monarchy that she and William hope to shape in the future."
Bidisha, a filmmaker and broadcaster, said Prince William's wife is different from other royal mothers. Middleton is a "dedicated, hands-on, very affectionate mother."
"I think she’s made it clear through her behaviour, being a mother is her main priority," she added. "She’s providing a warmth as a parent, that isn’t always present in the Royal Family."

How Hands-On Are Kate Middleton As A Mom
Dr. Chandrika Kaul, a historian from the University of St Andrews, said Kate Middleton is very relatable because she's very hands-on when it comes to her children. She does her own shopping and school run.
Historian David Starkey said in a previous interview with Sir David Tang that Middleton "represents a world outside the Palace, a world outside that privilege." He also called the Duchess of Cambridge the "supermarket trolley princess" because she has been spotted shopping at Waitrose. She contrives to be both "common" and a "princess."

In 2018, she was spotted shopping with Prince George and Princess Charlotte for school supplies. She was also seen multiple times dropping off and picking up her children from school.
Middleton admitted to Giovanna Fletcher that she also struggles with mom's guilt. The duchess even shared a scenario that made her feel that way.
"This morning, coming to the nursery visit here, George and Charlotte were like, 'Mummy how could you possibly not be dropping us off at school this morning," Middleton said.

"But no, it's a constant challenge, you hear it time and time again from mums. And always sort of questioning your own decisions, and your own judgments, and things like that, and I think that starts from the moment you have a baby."
