Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle had been hit by various rumors when the latter was still a working royal. It's been over a year since the Sussexes did their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, and one insider claimed that Prince Harry's wife misunderstood her sister-in-law.
Kate Middleton Reportedly Made Some Sacrifices For Meghan Markle
Prince Harry was very close to his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton before he married Meghan Markle, and the three royals were dubbed the royal trio. When the former Suits star joined the firm, many were hoping that the "royal trio" would become a "fantastic four." Unfortunately, it didn't happen because Prince Harry and Prince William decided to divide their household.
There were claims that the division was due to Markle and Middleton's issues. However, several said the two duchesses have no rift, but their husbands do.
Several insiders who are reportedly within their circles spoke with Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English. The tipster claimed that the Duchess of Cambridge made some sacrifices for her sister-in-law.
For instance, during the unveiling of Princess Diana's statue last year, Middleton was supposed to join Prince William to support her husband. Prince Harry flew from California sans his wife, who had just given birth to baby Lilibet at the time.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge discussed Middleton's attendance since Markle was not there to join Prince Harry. The future queen consort "gracefully pulled out at the eleventh hour" because they were concerned about the reaction it would provoke from Montecito if Markle would see her. Meanwhile, a report from Mirror said that the Duchess of Cambridge skipped the event so Markle's absence wouldn't be so obvious.
Meghan Markle Reportedly Misunderstood And Disrespected Kate Middleton
There are also varying accounts about Meghan Markle making Kate Middleton cry or vice versa in the run-up of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal wedding in May 2018. Several outlets claimed that the bride made the Duchess of Cambridge cry over the flower girls' dresses.
However, Prince Harry's wife denied it during her interview with Oprah Winfrey for a CBS special last year. Instead, Markle said "the reverse happened" because it was Middleton who allegedly made her cry.
Markle even praised her sister-in-law, saying Middleton was "a good person." The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly apologized and brought her flowers and a card.
"I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something, but she owned it and she apologised and she brought me flowers and a note apologising, and she did what I would do if I knew that I'd hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it," Markle said about Middleton.
An insider told English that Markle's statement infuriated Prince William, who felt that his wife was "massively disrespected." Apparently, Middleton did not send Markle flowers to apologize. She just "misunderstood" the gesture, per Mirror.
"It obviously never occurred [to Meghan] that they were a peace offering, not an apology," the source said, as quoted by Daily Mail.
The future king and queen consort have reportedly tried all they could to mend their relationship with the Sussexes.
"Despite much provocation, both William and Catherine have tried to keep the peace more than anyone will ever realise," the tipster said.
The Sussexes and Cambridges' relationship is reportedly still strained. They didn't even interact during the Platinum Jubilee.
