Kate Middleton Spells Her Nickname With A 'K,' Not A 'C' Because Of Queen Consort Camilla?

Eagle-eyed royal fans have long wondered why Kate Middleton's nickname is spelled as such. After all, her real name Catherine starts with the letter c. So, if her nickname is a shortened version of her legal moniker, it should be spelled as Cate.

In Prince Harry's memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that it was Queen Consort Camilla who asked Middleton to change the spelling of her nickname.

"There were already two royal ciphers with a C and a crown above: Charles and Camilla. It would be too confusing to have another," Prince Harry wrote (via Now to Love).

However, Prince Harry also admitted that he felt pangs of sadness after Prince William and Middleton tied the knot because it made it feel as though he had just lost his older brother.

"The brother I'd escorted into Westminster Abbey that morning was gone — forever. Who could deny it? He'd never again be first and foremost Willy. We'd never again ride together across the Lesotho countryside with capes blowing behind us. We'd never again share a horsey-smelling cottage while learning to fly. Who shall separate us? Life, that's who," he wrote.
