Kate Middleton is the epitome of class and grace.
Throughout the years that she has been seen in public, it has been very rare for royal fans to see her without a smile on her face. The Duchess of Cambridge rarely shows negative emotions, but a body language expert revisited three key instances wherein Middleton seemed upset or moody.
Kate Middleton’s Body Language During Engagement Interview Analyzed
While speaking with Express, body language expert, Judi James said that Kate Middleton showed signs of being upset during her engagement interview with Prince William. At the time, the royal couple spoke with ITV News about their engagement and wedding plans.
Everything was going well during the interview until Prince William brought up his split from Middleton. Even though the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s breakup were very brief, mentioning it seemingly brought back negative feelings for Middleton.
“William and Kate’s engagement interview was clearly all about affectionate and loving body language rituals. But when the subject of their temporary ‘break’ came up, Kate did look keen to let William and the nation know that, like Queen Victoria, she was ‘not amused,” James said.
The body language expert also said that royal fans might have missed Middleton’s reaction to Prince William’s story about their breakup because it happened very quickly. But upon closer inspection, it was obvious that the Duchess of Cambridge gave Prince William a small telling-off.
Middleton also shared her version of events during her engagement interview and said that she wasn’t very happy about the split, but it made her a better person. And she also had a ton of realizations during her time away from Prince William.

Kate Middleton Applied Stern Body Language Rituals At Pippa Middleton’s Wedding
Another occasion wherein Middleton showed signs of being moody or upset happened during her sister Pippa Middleton’s wedding.
According to James, Middleton was in charge of herding the bridesmaids on her sister’s special day. And at first, she looked calm and happy. But when it became a struggle for her to control the youngest members of Pippa’s entourage, it became evident that Middleton got upset.
“Being given the role of herding and pacifying the small but clearly over-excited group of bridesmaids and pages at her sister Pippa’s wedding must have been a testament to her unquestionable skills as the Mary Poppins of the family. After all, Pippa was tasked with straightening Kate’s train at her own wedding, so this was a bit of an emotional upgrade and a profile downgrade all in one go,” James said.
Middleton was later seen applying some sterner body language rituals to try and control the members of the entourage. She also, reportedly, displayed an angry face, which is an un-regal gesture.
Kate Middleton Had An Off Moment During Queen Elizabeth’s Garden Party
And in 2017, Prince William’s wife once again showed signs of being upset or moody while at Queen Elizabeth’s garden party in Poland.
“It’s easy for the cameras to catch an ‘off’ moment that is often just an expression re-set between regal smiles but on this occasion, in Warsaw in 2017, there were a whole series of ‘moments’ of Kate with her pitch-perfect smile vanished from her face and a look of what might actually be called thunder in its place,” James said.
This resulted in Prince William constantly looking at his wife to ensure that she was OK.
“His own smile when he turned to perform it came with a rather reflective eye expression. A row or just a somber moment? Either way, it was refreshing to see Kate showing some normal emotions,” James concluded.
